This was all much easier
When I thought I was a boy
Imitating laughter in the place of joy
The words, they flowed, my heart was known;
It was something I could not stop--
Experiments in nakedness in front of God
I will put my life in front of you--
Please forgive me for being strange
This is how I've learned to live my life.
It's how I know that I can be changed.
I see the nervousness in your eyes;
Not everybody walks around unshod
But I think our souls need to be naked
in front of God.
Take me, hold me; there is so much of me down here
Why do I try to hide myself?
This is part of my fear; this is part of my fear.
Now I've grown up as His little child,
Sometimes more, sometimes less like Christ
Often when I feel He's turned away from me
Is when I've turned away to hide
I'm learning more 'bout forgiveness,
And the cleansing pow'r in the flowing blood...
I do confess to Him my sin;
I know these hands are not enough
To bring me back to be with Him,
As though it took just being tough.
It's not my power or my strength
That's brought me where I've come to be--
There's too much sin inside my heart;
I should be hanging on a tree.
But under this pile of dirty laundry,
The wretched garments of my death,
His resurrection finds me gasping,
And fills my lungs with blessed breath.
Now I am being re-created,
Healed and strengthened from within;
Yes, I am happy to be standing,
Naked and whole, in front of Him!
. . . Come join with me in being naked . . .
in front of God.
